There are quite a few William Prest marriages in Yorkshire. There is this one at an age when I would have expected him to marry for the first time:-

Name: William Prest
Year of Registration: 1855
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: York
County: Yorkshire - East Riding, Yorkshire - North Riding, North Yorkshire, Yorkshire - West Riding
Volume: 9d
Page: 67

The spouse on this marriage would be either Sarah Booth or Ann Thackray.

If you have his father's name from the second marriage certificate, you could use that as a reference checking point if you decided to order a certificate.

If the father's name is different, then I wouldn't bother ordering as it doesn't seem to be the one you are looking for.

There is also this marriage, but he would have been very young at the time:-

Name: William Prest
Year of Registration: 1852
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: York
County: Yorkshire - East Riding, Yorkshire - North Riding, North Yorkshire, Yorkshire - West Riding
Volume: 9d
Page: 62

Spouse Phoebe Ann Seagar.

Thanks very much for all thr help, I will order the 1863 marriage to Elizabeth, that would fit in because on 1861 census he is living with parents, by 1871 he's a widower, thanks again for all the help.

Just another little question, I have been doing some searching on my husbands side, all scottish and find everything so much easier, Scotlands People is great because I can get certs instantly, plus from 1855 they give much more info than english certs, is there any site like Scotlands people but which covers England where all my side come from ??.

Thanks again for all the help.

The only way to see English/Welsh certs is to buy them.....no online access.

Try looking for all the Prest births in Thirk between 1863 and 1868 and then try and find them in the 1871 census.

Look on FreeBMD using the time range, Thirsk for the district and just Prest for the surname.
