Jolly

I emailed the Fareham Registery Office last night with all the information I had including place of birth and Father and Mothers names.

They have replied back that the (Male) Samways in question at the start of query, place of death is listed as the same as place of birth I have on Rex Samways birth certficate which was at 2 Magdala Road, Cosham. They have informed me he died age 9 and a half hours old, but the Father is listed as James Samways -but Archibald was Archibald James Samways so maybe an error was made, I will now have to order the certificate again to get the full information. I can get this from Fareham Registery Office so hopefully wont take as long as GRO, as now really want to see the dam certificate

As I said before, from now on going to put least amount of detail on GRO so at least then they will send the certificate even if wrong, but this time was right!!

Thanks Jolly

I have the address of his birth as 2 Magdala Road, Cosham, so trying to work out which office the death might be at from this. If any one knows the area better and can tell me great else I will keep googling, must stop for dinner now though but be back in a little bit

Thanks very very much

I cant think of anything else -it will be Hampshire Record Office in Winchester, I was just looking up the Fareham Cemeteries to see about contacting them also.

Thanks Jolly

Hi all

I have phoned the GRO today to query the death certificate is definitely not mine, and they say category NO, that as the birth was registered with a forename, of REX then the (Male) Samways could definitely not be correct and the death would be registered under full name.

so where do I go now??

Any ideas please

Thanks

Yeah

Your right Jolly, probably should have done that, but was so certain it would have been the correct one, didnt think it would have mattered, but certainly learned lesson, as you say at least you know whom the wrong person was

Was just wondering would there be any chance that the child could have been disabled and sent to an institute at a very young age?

As this seems to have happened to a Winifred Samways born in 1893 (she would have been Archibald, the Fathers cousin) she was sent to John Grooms Crippleage in London

I am of course hoping not, would it be something they would have done in 1914??

Yeah that is true Gwyn -it would be interesting to see who is recorded, means re ordering again I suppose without putting any parents details in, and waiting the five days again, which is ashame.

I have queried the Archie fact via sending an email to GRO, so will see what that comes back saying, hopefully will get a response tomorrow.

Thanks

I would think that the name was unusual enough, and the coincidence great enough to want to see who the male SAMWAYS was anyway, as your family were in the district at that time.
It may turn out to be the child Rex after all, if the father's name was not recorded correctly for some reason.

Margaret

They dont say who the father is on the death certificate, just that it is not Archibald -I will curse if it says Archie and they have not sent it, may be I should email them and get this checked.

Thanks for your thoughts Margaret

It certainly sounds to me that the death of that male Samways was him. Wonder if a mistake was made in the father's name? Did they say what the father's name was? Surely it wouldn't be so simple as Archie instead of Archibald?

Hi help please -this is a little long winded so I apoligise

I had always believed that my Grandfather Herbert C Samways was the youngest of six children born in July-Sept 1925 with the oldest born in 1911. But when looking on the FREEBMD I am pretty certain that there is another son we were unaware of born Jan-March 1914 Rex Samways, Mother Maiden Name WEST in district Fareham, the first two were born in Fareham also and then they moved to Isle of Wight for Alice Samways birth in Oct-Dec1915 and there onwards.

I have ordered Rex Samways 1914 birth certificate, with all the details of the parents on the order form, and I had also found a death in the same quarter of (Male) Samways Fareham district, so assumed this must be him and ordered this as well. But I have received an email from GRO saying that the death of (Male) Samways Father was not Archibald so they will not be sending this certificate, and refunded £4. So I am now confused as where did Rex Samways goes??

Another son born 1919 was named REX ERNEST SAMWAYS, so I assumed that REX born 1914 had died and they named their next son after him. I have a photo of Mum and three children took in Feb 1918 -children being James Eric, Florence and Alice -this info gained from what was written on the back of the photo.

Any ideas where REX 1914 could have gone too, as looked through death index and no death recorded between 1914-1919??

Any ideas appreciated

Thanks in advance

Joanna
