I would appreciate some help please. How does one print the GR Family Tree? (Including the information at the bottom ). Is a special programme required and if so what is recommended? I hope this is not a silly question but I have only been doing this for a few months and am not clued up!
Thanks.
Val.

Val, when you open your tree you then select full tree. When it opens you will see a print option on screen. Click on that and then you get a print selection panel which allows you to scale your tree. Change the scale (depending on size of tree) to a size you can still read. Then run mouse over the selection panel and click on pages you want to print.(or you can simply click "select all") When that is done you select print. When it is printed off you will find that pages sometimes join in the middle of a name box so you will have to do a little trimming.

ps. It doesn't print the information at the bottom of screen, neither does it print the year of death.

Valerie,

I haven't found that you can print a report from this site which contains all the notes information (I assume that's what you mean?) which is really frustrating, as I started using this site first.

However, there is free Personal Ancestry File (PAF) software available to download from the familysearch.org site.

If you download that, you can then export your gedcom file from Genes reunited (at the very bottom of the GR screen there is toolbar with "Export Gedcom" on it... and then you import that into the PAF file.

The PAF software has a number of reports which do contain all the notes and date information, although I still haven't found one which actually prints everyone in one place.
You can print an Ahnentafel Chart which gives all the info but only on each set of parents going back along the tree, or you can print all the family groups, but then you get duplicated information where someone appears as a husband, parent, son in 3 places etc.

If anyone has any better advice, I'd be pleased to hear from you!

Does any of the bought software do everything we aspire to?

Christine,

I'm not sure I understand your question, if you only want to print part of your tree, you need to select the person you want, and then either "full tree" or "ancestors" or "descendants" and then the print icon will come up on the screen..

is that what you meant?

Thanks Diane and Gerri for your advice, I will persuade my daughter that FTM will make a very nice Christmas present! You will probably have gathered from my questions that I am relatively new to all this (and that includes learning to use the computer in my old age!).

Hi Joyce, I must admit that I too enjoy this board and find everyone extremely helpful for which I am grateful, as I am still finding my feet so to speak.

Gerri,

with FTM can you put on several different trees or would you need a different copy of the software for each different tree?

thanks

Diane

You can have many different trees on FTM, with a file for each.
