Just a little tip for anyone interested in buying either annual or monthly membership to the Ancestry Deluxe Package....SHOP AROUND

Have looked at 4 different Ancestry sites (UK, US, CA, AU) - prices vary on all the same packages.

Monthly - on Ancestry.Uk is 24.95GBP/month, Ancestry.US is $29.95USD or 14.39GBP ; Ancestry.CA is $39.95CDN or 20.58GBP; Ancestry.AU is 59.95AUD or 26.58GBP.

Definately best deal purchasing from US site. Annual rates have same differentials.

Payper view same thing - plus have found I can buy pay per view on Ancestry CA and credits are good on Ancestry.US.

Exchange calculated using www.xe.com rates given as of today.

So remember all - comparison shopping best way to go.

Sue, wasnt there something about having to pay tax on top of the US price - cant remember now?

Its always worth haggling anyway - currently UK ancestry is nearly £80 per annum (which works out a lot cheaper than the per month option) but serveral of us have haggled that down to about £55. I dont know if we will be able to do that now they have new ownership though.

Heather, my Ancestry runs out this week. I emailed them to ask for a reduction (after all I won't have much left to find on there now), but it was "nothing doing". Am thinking of trying Findmypast to see if I can make some headway.

Dont email - telephone them - they are much more flexible on the phone - LOL. O.C. was told one price, threatened to read them her whole family tree unless they reduced it and after a lot of laughter they did!

I paid for mine - heard everyone else was haggling and so rang up quite indignantly asking for the £55 sub - pause, Just one moment mam, Back she came, Yes, we can do that for you mam. They refunded my £80 sub and took £55.

Sometimes if you dont renew immediately you get a couple of weeks anyway and then an email saying "Why have you left us .......20% off"

If all else fails, use quidco.com - its a shopping co operative and if you register with them you get cash back from hundreds of sites including ancestry. I think they give 15% cash back on a sub - use a different email addy though in case its just for first timers.
