Hi
I have the same problems with my father's mother's family.
They all have really weird nicknames.
eg Amy=Bim
Elizabeth=Ooie

and so on!!

Was it more a fashion in the past to use nicknames?

This is not much help but:.......
Maybe she was good at painting!!
Or had a lot of wind LOL

Dodgy when nicknames are used. I know someone as Dina - her real name is Angela. Even at work they don't know her real name.
Why is she Dina? When she was a little girl she moaned a lot so her father called her Dina Whiner - and it stuck!!!

One thing that comes up on a Google search is:-

Its use as a female name appears to date to the 19th century in the American ... Nickname: Arty. ARTEMISIA - a classical Greek name
