There is this death which could be the right one:-

John T. Hobson, age 52
March qtr. 1952, Sheffield, 2d, 264

You could look for the death by going through all those years on the complete bmd index - long old trawl, but worth it if you want to really know for sure. Do you have ancestry? You can still get a 14 days free trial.

Thanks Jim, that was quick!
So he may have made himself 3 years older; that sounds plausible, my grandmother lied at the marriage too saying she was 23 when she was 25.
I wish I could find the death record though to confirm it's the right one.

I have details of his marriage as follows Married 7th June 1919 at the Congregational Chapel Weedon Street Sheffield
John Thomas Hobson age 22 Bachelor STEEL DRESSER 214 Carbrook Street Sheffield Father William Hobson STEELWORKS LABOURER.
I suspect he may have lied about his age.
Having searched some sites I can find no record of his birth or death (sometime between 1945 and 1956). I'm quite new to this and would appreciate any advice you experts could offer.
