WOW - What a surprise. You are brilliant.

Firstly Keith thank you - yes I think that is the correct birth registration.

Margaret and Roy I am astounded. I had no idea that Florence was a unisex name, AND it would explain the Irish link that I've so far not been able to find.

Margaret, I was going to start cooking my dinner, but I think I'll check out the 1851 census first.

He's on the 1851 census, 8 yr. old son of Florence & Catherine. Father Florence was from Ireland (A male name in Ireland?) There are a couple of other male Florences on the census, also born Ireland.

Florence was used as a boys name and not just a girls name.

I have been sitting here this afternoon tracing my family back through the census records. On the 1901 census I have Florance Leary aged 57, occupation Charwoman. Underneath is listed wife Phoebe age 58.

Ok, I thought someone has got a bit confused with the relationship.

Next step 1891 census, again Florence Leary age 48, this time General Cooper, wife 49 year old Phoebe.

1871 census has Phoebe married to Thomas Leary, occupation also Cooper.

Now I am confused so I thought I'd have a look on the marriage records.

What did I find - Florence Leary married Phoebe (or Phobe) Lamey, 2nd Q 1865.

Was Florence/Thomas the same person, or had Florence's parents hoped for a boy lol.

Any suggestions please would be gratefully received.
