Records of provisions made for mistresses

My great great grandmother was the mistress of the local squire, and had six children by him. I imagine the squire made sure she was provided for, rather than have bastardy orders made against him. Does anyone knnow how I go about finding out if and what provisions were made? Children were born between 1856 and 1875 in Somerset. Would be very grateful if anyone can help. I'm daunted by the records office as feel it's like looking for a needle in a haystack! |

You could try to see if he left a will. I've never had to do this as my lot never had anything to leave, but i think you apply to somewhere in York. |
