Last week, I found this web site - http://www.regiments.org/regiments/uk/inf/071HLI.htm - which is for the Highland Light Infantry, but I am sure there are other regiments which can be accessed.

I e-mailed the address given and after sending a donation, received details of my Great Uncle's war record, including his Victory Medal. I found all this out in time for Rememberance Sunday! Wow, that was quick work!

Many thanks to you both. I'll try the national archives now.

Can anyone advise whether I am looking in the wrong place for an award of a military medal.

On the discharge papers for Sergeant Reuben Baker in 1920 it refers to "awarded military medal London Gazette on 24.1.19".

I have been through the London Gazette for that date and can't find anything on this.

Tips would be welcome

Thanks

Sue
