Maybe the addresses on the birth and death certificates will match up.

If they don't, it might be worth checking the home address on the death certificate on the electoral rolls to see who else lived there.

It's such a sad story. Please keep us up-dated. I'm hoping that she is your Irene because then she'll have her place in your tree and won't be forgotten.

There were many disorders back then that they simply didn't understand.

for example, the Rhesus factor runs in my family. Today, expectant mums can have an anti-body injection to protect the unborn baby, but back in the early 1900's, my great grandmother lost four babies shortly after birth.

As cruel as it seems by todays standards, people who were crippled or handicapped in some way were shunned. Families kept "hush hush" about them.

Hi Deb
Yes i will have to bite the bullet and order the Death certificate but would'nt you think if she died from a problem that could have been passed to my dad his father would have mentioned it?

Hi Kaz,

Have you tried tracking down the hospital records where your father was born?

Irene would have to have named a next-of-kin.

I think that ordering the death cert would be a good idea too. The cause of death could be a big clue considering your Irene was crippled from birth. If she suffered from something like congenital muscular dystrophy, then it may have contributed to her early death.

Just a suggestion.

My grandfather was born in Boston in 1904 name Harold Marriott . I dont know about Irene being a cripple i would have thought that my dad would have at least known about that but it was on the 1901 census as you have pointed out .I suppose the only conclusion i can make is that this is my grandmother and hope some-one out there in the family will contact me one day .

Thanks Lynn that is the family i have been researching have had contact with the family but get the same reply yes Irene is a member of the family but no-one knows anything about her . I have done as you have and assumed that this is my Irene and have traced the family back to 1600's but cannot get confirmation that this Irene had a baby boy in 1924 and died in 1928 see my dilemma.

My father was born in Boston Lincolnshire (Skirbeck area) in 1924.

kaz in kent Report 14 Nov 2007 09:24

It would only confirm that Irene is the person that i have been researching unless one of my father's family was the imformant which i think is unlikely as i dont think they had any contact after my father was born.

Have you found the registry of your father's mother's death? This should give you her age at death, provided the informant got it right.

kaz in kent Report 14 Nov 2007 09:08

My father's mother died when he was only 4 years old. His parents never married and he was raised by his father and paternal grandparents. His mother was never mentioned so he knew nothing about her.
I started my research after my father died so never got the chance to ask him any thing so turned to his
step sister she has been very helpful on my father's father's side but could only give me the surname of my father's mother . I sent for my father's birth certificate and got his mother's name from that .
Her name was Irene Limb and that's it that is all i have to got on . So started my research only two possibilities were found and Irene was a middle name of one of them . I have followed the last Irene's line back to 1600's but how can i ever be sure i have the right person . Any advice would be very much appreciated.
