Hi Seaham Lass,
I have experienced problems with finding records for all of my dads side of the family (Carroll) My dad is one of 7 born between 1917 and 1931 all in the West Derby, Lancs area in Liverpool. My dad is 86 and I hugged him today so I know he is real haha. But finding them online is a puzzle. I have marriage certs in hand, birth certs of a couple and his sister Kathleen is still alive in the USA.... I guess a trip to the records office will have to be made. Not one of his brothers and sisters shows in births or deaths.
My mothers side was easy, they sprung up like dafs in the spring! I wonder if GRO decided that the Irish imigrants of the 1850s and family lines should be 'filed pending further development'
Thank you all for your contributions... I may get lucky.

Ooh I've wasted some time on this!

OK; George birth reg'd June 1923 mmn Connell in W Derby

Marriage June 1949, some of the children found June or Sep 1950 to 1953; death Dec 1958.

Not quite sure how your Dad made this brother six years younger!

All the best

PS I generally avoid searching the indexes by eye, but this one was made a little easier by using Findmypast, which at least highlights the quarters visited; and by the fact that this area is vol 10, which stands out easily when scanning down the columns.

Hi John
I wondered why I could find my 3 brothers on the "complete" birth registers but not my own birth.
I posted a message on the tips board as was informed that not all registrations are passed on the the GRO so if I wanted to find someone that wasn't listed on the GRO records I would have to apply to the relevant registrars office and they would supply the birth, marriage or death certificate.
Just a suggestion.

No problem, I see that I missed that you said that you had the cutting without a year, so both the birth and the death years might vary.

I have found an East Lancs mining site where a school project has requested stories about Cronton colliery. One man has written that there was a fire in 1965, the year that he joined; and an accident in 1972 when two people called Ted and Kevin were killed.

Ancestry seems very slow this evening (at least on my machine), but presumably a search from 1965 backwards for the Oct-Dec quarter might yield results. The death registration should give a fix on the birth year.

Will get back if I find anything.

All the best

John

Ancestry have both FreeBMD (transcriptions ongoing, currently almost nothing post 1925), and the scans of the national indexes, where you need to look at the relevant page for your surname, for each quarter (the index has not been computerised).

You say he was 35 when he died, and born around 1927. Was the death in 1962? Have you looked at the Oct-Dec 1962 death index for his surname?

My dads brother was killed at Cronton Colliery, Lancashire. I have found newspaper clippings (no year) he lived in Huyton, Liverpool. I have searched Ancestry and cannot find any trace what so ever of him. I am lost on this one.
Below deatils from newspaper cuttings etc
George Henry Carroll (B approx 1927?)
Killed on 9th October aged 35 years,
Wife, Kathleen (nee Moore)
Lived at Deepfield Drive, Huyton
Children, Michael, Kathleen, George and Phillip.
Coroner Mr C Bolton recorded death by misadventure.
My dad was born in 1921 and reckons his brother George was born in 1927, at 35 Herrick Street, Old Swan, Liverpool (west Derby Parish)
I cannot undestand why I cannot find any trace of George.... I would be most grateful of any ideas so I can complete his details on my tree.
