Hi Christine - that could very well be him as he disappears between 1851 and 1861 at some point. How easy is it to search the ealier census to try and cross-ref him? I don't want you to go to too much trouble. I am asking for a friend who is no longer a member on GR.

Hi Tom,

The 1900 image says he entered USA in 1857.

Found one in 1870 but with different wife and living in different state but occupation is the same, farmer.

Will see if I can find any marriages, may be a while, am not used to doing the American ones.

The one in 1870 is married to Mary, and the only marriage which comes up is one in England in 1855 and there is a Mary on the same page.

No obvious ones for him came up in other census years other than 1870 and the 1900.

Tom, do you know that the 1880 US census is free on Familysearch?
