Yipee, have just found him!!! He was buried in the Asylum cemetery on 8 dec 1943.
It's nice to have a positive outcome.

Sorry but he dosn't get a mention in any of the Fulbourn Chronicles, but from what you said, he didn't belong to the village so may not have been there long.

My friend says that Fulbourn hospital did have it's own cemetery but not sure when it was last used. Anyone who died at the hospital with no relatives might have gone to a paupers grave at Cambridge City cemetery, unless money was left for that purpose. You could try and write to Ros Nightingale at the Medical Records Dept at Fulbourn, she may help but you might have to supply info because of data protection.

Thanks so much. I live in New Zealand and checking the rellies out is a bit hard. My relatives name was Bernard Shingler. He was born in Staffordshire but most of his siblings died in the 1920's his sister moved to coventry and I don't know when he would have gone into Fulbourn. He was 60 when he died in 1943 and I don't know if he had any family as he was in prison earlier in his life and I don't know what was wrong with him. Any information would be great...Thanks

I have Fulbourn rellies, though not in the hospital. There is deffinately a cemetry and church yard in the village, but I don't know if the hospital had its own burial ground.

Was the family in the village for a while? I have the Fulbourn Chronicles, available from CFHS, which are brilliant, someone went through the local paper and put all the Fulbourn mentions into four books, they are so interesting. Happy to look and see if any of your family are mentioned.

And if you have Google Earth, Fulbourn comes up really clearly, enough to get a good look round.

Thanks Chris for your quick reply, I had a read a bit of Clarks story. Epilepsy ran in the family and it seems he may have been in one of the labouring gangs. I found plenty of information about Dr Thomas who was the informant on the death certificate. I hope to find a cemetery nearby.

I can't answer your question but if it is Fulbourn Hospital Cambridgeshire then there is a whole book about the history of the facility on the net. Apologies if you have already seen this but maybe there might be a mention in it of how deaths were dealt with.

Hi, can anyone help me. I have a death cert for a relative that says he died at the villa fulbourn in 1943. I live overseas so I don't know the area..where would he be buried nearby if no relative claimed him.
