Hi can you help.

I'm quite new at this and am finding it difficult to know how you look for divorce papers on the above persons. I know that Edward remarried a Lousia Goodchild and Minnie might have moved to the dorset area possible marrying a Mr Butt 1929. Can any advise me. thankyou trace

I dont know what dates are available but you cant find this info online, try this:

Remember that divorce was expensive and quite rare back then and people often didnt divorce but just separate.

If it helps to narrow down the year the divorce took place, the proceedings are J E Eames Versus M Eames, Law Notices March 10th 1919, Divorce Motions.(Probate, Divorce and Admiralty Divison announcements The Times)

Have you actually got the marriage certificate for Joseph Edward Eames and Goodchild? If so how did he describe himself - i.e. bachelor, widower or previously married.

Unless they were quite wealthy I doubt that they got divorced as it was ecpensive and difficult to get in those days.

This is the reference for the marriage certificate if you haven't got it:-

UPDATE - after seeing the previous reply, it seems they did actually divorce. It looks as if the divorce would be either 1919 or 1920 since he remarried in the first qtr of 1920, so it shouldn't be difficult for the divorce to be found by the Principal Registry.

If you see my post above the divorce is in the Times announcements for 1919.

The first marriage to Minnie Watts is in 1909.
