Hi Andy From Skipton,
I do mean Boston Spa Yorkshire as his birth place.
As you can tell I am no good at the Geography bit.
But in my defence I was informed Boston Spa was in Lincolnshire.
I am Here to learn. Ha Ha.
I would just like to add I knew I was Right. Ha Ha.
Regards
Christine

If you particularly want to get his birth certificate i would recommend getting in touch with the Lincoln register office. They hold all the certificates for the entire county and can supply a copy in a week or so for £7.

All they need are the name, approximate date/place. If for any reason they cannot supply a copy then they will not charge anything.

I regularly use the Lincoln office (all my major family lines are linked to the county at some point or other).

I've been trying to find your grandfather's marriage but I'll have to give up for now as Ancestry is playing up and I can't get any images.

G'day Christine,
Do you know what Wilfred's middle name is/was? Did it start with H or G? I have found a birth record for a Wilfred H Richardson in Louth Sep 1914 and one for a Wilfred G C Richardson in Lincoln Dec 1917.
Cheers
Alex

As you have details of birth and marriage have you got copy certs? If not may I recommend you get them. These will reveal other facts for you to follow. I see someone has suggested this. B Cert ill give you mothers maiden name; maybe birth address. Fa's Occ. Informant. On a marr cert (I see you have index ref ; you can buy copy certs on line on "Find my Past" web site at a reasonable cost and download them) Witnesses. can sometimes provide clues of relations. Local Record Office may provide copies too if you are able to visit. If not try their web sites.. You could also try Family History Society web sites to view Members interests. Maybe make a contact here. If he had any brothers and sisters you sometimes have to explore their records and as I call it "come in sideways". Good hunting

Christine
Have you applied for your parents marriage cert, this should give you his age and name, it could be that he uses a nickname, my father's name was George but known to everyone as Jack

Do you want to give us his name and the year he married your mum also his father's name?

If you don't want to put the names on this thread you could send us a pm (personal message).

Have you considered that your father may have been illegitimate and registered in his mother's maiden name (please don't take offence at the suggestion as lots of people were)?

Sorry - have to go to bed now but I'll look back here tomorrow.

I HAVE JUST CANCELED A SUBSCRIPTION TO A SITE BECAUSE I COULD NOT GET ACCESS TO ANY UK RECORDS. JUST GOING ROUND IN CIRCLES.
I HAVE TRIED ANCESTRY AND FINDMYPAST AND NOTHING.
WITHOUT HIS DETAILS I CAN NOT CONTINUE TO RESEARCH HIS TREE. DUE TO LIMITED INFORMATION ON HIS MOTHERS SIDE.
I AM SORRY THIS IS A BIT LONG WINDED.
I DO TEND TO WAFFLE.
I HOPE I HAVE EXPLAINED OK.
WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?

THANKS

Do you mean you are estranged from him and trying to contact him?

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 22 Nov 2007 00:13

It depends on what you are looking for.

If you want his birth or marriage reference you look on the complete index. You can do this online with a subscription to sites like Ancestry or Findmypast. Don't use credits on GenesReunited as they are expensive and not the best way to search. You can also search the birth, marriage and death indexes for free at the county records office, some libraries or LDS Family History Centres.

If your father is still alive I'm not sure exactly what information you are looking for.
