Was this it, or one like it?

Newport Mon, Maindee

I think Mon = Monmouthshire

If you enter Maindee in the birth place, there are lots and lots turn up! Some near Newport Monmouthshire, and some in Cheshire!

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maindee (Welsh: Maendy) is a large inner-city area in the city of Newport. It lies mostly within the electoral district (ward) and community (parish) of Victoria, although some areas traditionally associated with Maindee are in the Beechwood ward.

(Newport is/was in Monmouthshire, abbreviated to "Mon" on the census)
