I've given the GRO vol number and page number, received e-mail saying they can't find the marriage cert.
What do I do now.

Did you input both the bride & the groom on your request?

First check that you did submit a reference from the marriage index not birth or death no I'm not joking its awfully easy not to notice that you are looking at the wrong index!
Second, and similar to above check that it was a marriage cert you applied for
Third have you looked at the image of the index page to make sure the ref you have has not been mistranscribed
Fourth as Claire suggests don't give both names, only the one you are sure you have found on the index, as if the spouse's name is not quite as you have listed it GRO will assume it is the wrong entry

It also happened to me last week.I requested 2 certs both in same quarter both same name, one mother and one daughter.I was told only one cert and the other was a duplicated entry. After a phone call I was told that they would get the geneologist to look at it and he duly phoned back and said it was their mistake and the cert was found and would be sent free of charge.

It is often better to put in only one name when requesting marriage certs

Also, make sure that what you put is exactly as per the index........even one letter 'out' will cause problems...............
