Changes to GRO

I'm sure that many of you are already aware that there are changes already going on at the GRO. As of April next year the GRO will become part of the IPS (Identity & Passport Service). If getting a Birth Certificate is anything like getting a new Passport, then God help us all!

I've read their 'information' on the changes but admit to not fully understanding everything, e.g., where, in the future, do I order Certificates from?

Perhaps I'm just having 'a senior moment' but I'm already having problems with the GRO.

yes George I have and the folded certs. are definately a retrograde step , this is I guess because of the latest postal charges ie. less expensive the smaller the envelope.

Hmm, wasnt too happy to get a crease down the middle of my latest ones...especially as two of the certs were from the 1840's, and hard enough to read as it is. I really hope it's still going to be easy to order a cert. I know identity fraud is a problem, but if someones ordering a cert from, say, the 1840s then they're not generally a fraudster!

You're all lucky if you got uncreased certificates before!!


GRO might have put them in a large envelope, but by the time they reached me in Canada, both Royal Mail and Canada Post had had their goes at them, and finally the postman would fold it in half lengthways to get it through the letter box!
