Thanks Gwyneth - these were the possibilities that I had thought of but just wanted to check that it did not necessarily mean that the child died. Thanks again.

Sometimes...but not always a sickly child who did not survive was registered that way. Have you looked for a matching death around that time.
Sometimes the child was un-named and given for adoption and sometimes the parents simply hadn't yet decided on a forename but registered the birth anyway.
Parents' names would be shown in the usual way, even if the child is just shown as female ...or male.

Hi - I am looking for some information on birth registers and certificates and the details they should contain. I have found an entry for a birth in 1933 that only says (Female) where there should be forenames. Can anyone explain under which circumstances these names would be missing? Thanks
