please can someone make sense of where I am stuck.In 1901 i have Matha(martha) with her children in Holborn.Children being Mary A (12yrs) and George(6yrs). Class RG13 piece 237 folio171 page 35.
What I am stuck with is where were they in 1891 census,and how can i find who Matha(martha)was married to.Any help would be so appreciated as i am frustratingly against a brick wall.

What's the surname ?

I usually start looking for a marriage about 18 years after birth if a female and approx 21 years for a male around that time in the 1920's. I just put the name of the person I do know and just search each quarter until I find them. Searching just one year at a time.

On the 1901 she's Martha Wilson. She's married but no husband with her. There's a nephew Robert Owen, 14. They're all born London, St. Giles.

Where were the children born?

The Annie was a mistake and I've taken that out.

I've now looked again and I cant find them either. I dont even have any ideas either as I'm not as adept as some on here.

You threw me a bit when you first said the surname of Wilson as that is what I'm searching for too!! Not the same area though. lol

Many many thanks for that.I guess there is a strong possibility there.

The usual advice would be to get the birth cert for one of the children, which would give you the father's name and mother's maiden name, so that you could then search for a marriage - but with the names you have, there are going to be lots of possibles.

Do you have anything on the children after 1901? Do you know who and when they married? Those certs would give father's name and you could go back from there to find Martha's marriage.
