Hi Everyone, I wonder if there is a kind soul out there who'd be able to get some info from the Totnes baptism registers next time they're at the RO there?? I'm afraid I don't have a clue which church, sorry!
I have a bunch of children from one family with very peculiar names (they're on BMD) and I just want to verify that they are, as I believe, part of my husband's tree. If I could check parent's names, and at the same time get their dates of birth, that would be wonderful.
Any offers??
Thanks all!!

You might want to take your query to the Devon Family History Society discussion board --

http://members.boardhost.com/devonfhs/index.html

-- there are kind people there who will do lookups for you in parish registers -- transcriptions, that is. The DFHS sells CDs and printouts, but it's too complicated for me. Devon, of course, is the pits when it comes to that stuff ... but one user there did find my grx2 grfather's baptism in 1819 in Tamerton Foliott for me!

Oops, mea culpa -- I saw your post there -- I didn't realize these were all post 1837 births. I think the parish records the DFHS has transcribed / on CD are all pre-GRO.

Yours are in the GRO index, you know. At least these two I checked are:

Name: Sigismund Certaldo McBride
Year of Registration: 1855
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: Totnes
County: Devon
Volume: 5b
Page: 165

Name: Imogene Ermangarde McBride
Year of Registration: 1846
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
District: Totnes
County: Devon
Volume: 9
Page: 516

Probably the only way you're going to confirm parents' names is to order up the certificates!

http://www.freebmd.org.uk

to find the registration details, I'm sure you know.

See what they say at the DFHS board, but I'm afraid that's what it will be! Unless, of course, someone is at the registry office and does a check.

Someone there does owe me a favour ... but unfortunately it's the Plymouth registry office she hangs out at. Sorry!
