I need some help thinking outside the square.

My great great grandfather was b c1825 Pancras, London (age from census) His father was John McMillan (marriage cert).

In 1851 he is with parents John and ANN. However in 1841 he seems to be with mother MARY and no sign of father.

I can’t see a marriage for John and Ann in the intervening period, but there is a death of a Mary McMillan in Marylebone in Dec Q 1841

Any thoughts and/or advice would be welcome…..

May be John and Ann never married Peter - or they married some time after the period you have searched. Why dont you give us the chaps details so we can all have a mooch round your family??

Have you checked on the family search site or looked at pallots for the marriage. as grt grandfather was born 1825 the marriage and his birth wont show on the GRo records

I think Peter is looking for the second marriage, apparently post 1841 with "Ann". Are you sure these are the same families Peter?

They are the same families...Siblings of Frederick are Edward 1828, , Eliza 1825, Henry1833 and Martha1831 (give or take a year in each case.

John is not a seaman....
Can't find anything in Pallots under McMillan
Another thought is that she is actually Mary Ann and known by either name (in 1841 Mary is out of county - in 51 from Royston, Herts)
Can't find any suitable baptisms on IGI
The alternate spelling marriages look to be wrong area.

Are Ann and Mary right age to be same person?

My thought was that she was Mary Ann as there were so many with that double name in those times.

There's 3 years between them on census, but that could be because 1841 is rounded

Problem is I need to know because if they are two different people then I am only related to one of them. It's a pity because the nam is not that common in the area
