Thank you everybody for your help,SORRY I have taken so long to get back to you.

I had some unexpected guests arrive-so no time for the computer, it will be next week before I can look through the Web addresses you gave to me.

I know they will be very helpful to my search.

Have you tried searching under the name Beal for census entries?

1881 is free........

Have you had a look on A2A?

There are hits for Beal in Yorkshire, Glebe Farm/House in Yorkshire and Sherburn in Elmet.....But not neccessarily as combined searches :(

I think only you would know, from the synopsis for each record, whether they could be of any help to you.

Sorry to butt in here...but.....

Here in Stevenage we have a local shopping centre called 'The Glebe'

Stevenage 'new town' (we also have an 'old town') was built on farm land.....need i say more?

This is what glebe means according to Wikipedia and so you'd need to find out the history of the church.
"In the Roman Catholic and Anglican church traditions, a glebe was an area of land belonging to a benefice. This was property (in addition to the parsonage house and grounds) which vested in the incumbent by right of his incumbency. Glebe included a wide variety of properties including farms, individual fields, shops, houses, factories etc. An incumbent was entitled to retain the glebe for his own use if he wished (for instance, some incumbents farmed their own land) or he could let it and any income formed part of the stipend."

I was just glancing through old threads and saw Google It if you have a problem. Well I used to live at "Glebe House" Sherburn In Elmet, Nr Leeds years ago. It used to be called "Glebe Farm" before my time . I would love to know about it's history. Beal families lived there once. I have tried and tried to get anything about the House and Beal's-but nothing came up at all.
Any idea's welcome.
