Jeanette,

Sorry to have been so long in replying but have been away this week. Will do as you suggest, it certainly sounds a lot easier.

Thanks very much

There is another way if you don't want to delete them all. Download your gedcom from this site and open it in your family tree program on your pc. Make your alterations and then re-upload to this site. If you don't have a family tree program you can download a free one from the LDS site

Thanks Glen. What a lousy way of having to make a correction. Now I have to delete about 30 names and then re-enter them. What a waste of time and effort to correct just one name.

I also use Family Tree Maker on ancestry which is a lot better

You need to delete everyone connected to "mother" first, starting with the most recent generations and work backwards/across generation by geberation.

When you get to the point of having just the spouse of "mother" left you can delete him then change the details for "mother".

GR use such a lousy tree builder that to correct an error such as that you describe you have to jump through hoops to correct stuff. TBH you would be better spending £10 on a family tree programme, that way you have a backup system available.

Just lately when I have been adding mother to my tree when it comes up the box just says 'mother' with no name. Consequently in my tree have got a father married a mother with no name and GR won't let me delete the relation if it is connected to other family. What am I doing wrong?

Hope somebody can understand what I am trying to say as I am not quite sure I understand what I have written if that makes sense!!!!!

Open your GR 'My Family Tree'
( in the green strip above these messages....)

When it opens....click on a name and add the relative you want to add...

ie....Sibling....spouse/partner.....Mother....Father

Will someone give me an idiots guide to adding relatives to the family tree. I am a newbie, and have forgotten how I put it onto the site to begin with. Please explain it stage by stage and show me clearly which buttons I should press, etc
