Hi, can anyone help me with researching military information?

My grandfather's brother was an Ab/Bosum in the merchant navy and was killed during the second world war. He recieved a plaque which read "This scroll commemorates Frank Legg, ab/bosum, merchant navy, who died in the 1939/45 world war, for his valour and courage. Sent on the order of the king george vi" I'm desperately trying to find any information about him

Same with his step father William Morley who recieved 5 medals for his service in the war:
The african star
The Altantic Star
1939/1945 war medal
Italian Star
George VI Indian Imperial Medal

Any hints?

The medals you mention are common for those who served in the war (I don't mean to be rude by the way they simply recognise the service not any particular act). The term is bosun and would have meant that to a certain degree he would have controlled the work of the other seamen onboard. Do you know which vessel he served on and when he died. The scroll from the 'King' suggests something of significance worth further investigation

Don't worry about being rude :) I knew they were general service medals, not for special things he'd done.

Unfortunately I don't know anything else apart from the scroll from the king that he recieved, we don't have any other records as nearly everything got destroyed in a flood. Nightmare.

Do you know if your ancestor was a member of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (many merchant seamen were). also do you know if he was from Wales and when he died if you have any more info he may be the Frank Legg commemorated on the Tower Hill memorial, Just in case I have pm'd you the CWGC details for a merchant seaman Frank Legg
