I have Generations Family Tree software running on Windows ME. I am getting a new computer soon which will have Vista. Does anyone know whether I will be able to load my existing Family Tree software. If as I suspect, I cannot, does anyone have any suggestions what will be the best replacement software?

Just found this on the TWR website.

Feedback received from customers so far indicates that Generations v8.5a also works on Windows Vista.

A lot of newer programs including Family Tree Maker version 16 will not run on Vista without downloading a patch from the makers website.

You can only try it but I would want prrof before I took the chance. The data can be moved to Vista using gedcom format but this will not move any pictures that may be in your file.

Generations is no longer supported since it was bought over by FTM, you can still buy it but there will be no updates ever available for that program.

Thanks for this Stu. I am pleased that I won't have to move away from Generations.

Thanks for your advice Ron. At least I am clearer what the options are.

Thanks
