I believe it mean they have done some brave act and their names is listed in Dispatches for this..

do you or any one else know if they kept records of them that I could access .
It was my Great Aunt that died a few months ago who was mentioned in dispatches she was in WAAF at RAF Abingdon.

Hi Sarah,
I think the criteria for 'mentioned in dispatches' is something like 'having served a minimum of three weeks in a theatre of war and specificly named in a dispatch'. I might have that a bit wrong. The decoration is an oak leaf surmounted on the medal ribbon.
