If you look at the original registers...or on film or fiche... and John signed his name you could compare that to a copy of your John's signature at marriage to Mary Ann.

ENJ thanks - the 1814 one I can delete as he would only be 13yrs old., the 1827 one was to Mary Ann. the 1818 would make John 17yrs so I would think the 1822 one most likely this was to Ann Maria Nowlyn. How can I prove this?

In parish records you might be able to find the banns of marriage of John to Mary Ann.
This should tell you his home parish.
Look through the burials in that parish to see if there is an ARNOLD, who could be his wife, then check back to see if you can find John's marriage to that person.

Can anyone tell me how I can find the following please:-
I have the parish record of John Arnold b.1801 marriage to Mary Ann Allington on 12.02.1827. John is shown as a widower but I can't find a previous marriage. Any ideas how to please
