Try LIFT OPERATOR?

Short answer: nope. ;)

But I wonder -- and google gave me the idea.

Might it be LIFT operator?

The google results list for

occupation "life operator"

shows a couple of things where precisely that typo seems to have been made:

GOVERNMENT OF KERALA
Abstract
Public Services – Reservation for physically handicapped persons – 3% reservation to
class III and class IV posts – orders issued.
APPENDIXE – II
Post Suitable for appointment of different categories of the Physically Handicapped

A. Orthopaedically Handicapped
(b) Lower Extremities:
(i) Major Defects
Telephone operator
>> Life Operator

E. Partially Blind
>> Lift Operators
Duplicator operators

and

"a fork life operator in the O’Hare cargo area"

Might that be the answer?

Well Lindsey thought of it without needing google's assistance! I was googling, Lindsey was answering. ;)

I'm not so good at remembering that everyone once in a while posts at GR go into an html spasm. Edited my original post to reinsert what was omitted as a result ...

How come I can't do html when I *want* to?

bold is not going to come out bold, I know it.
