The trouble is that a child born to a married woman was presumed to be her husband's....whether or not that was fact.

Look to see who registered the birth. That might give a clearer indication.

Sorry I have confussed things.

While William Victor was serving in WW1 his wife had a son Thomas who was born Dec qtr 1916 and died March 1918. I am curious if he was back home at any point (I am still waiting on the birth cert for Thomas).

I also have his medal card and thanks to a kind gentleman on the ww1 forum I have details of the battle when he was awarded his military medal.

I ordered my Grandads WW2 records and it is great to see all the places he went to etc, especially as he wouldn't talk about it when he was alive.

I am really curious what William Victor Lawrences file would tell us. I know he was injured and I have a photo of him in hospital (I think maybe in France) and I know about his MM but i'd love to know more

I have already checked them thanks Heather. As I understand it the pension records are for those who were discharged early. My G Grandad William Victor Lawrence enlisted in 1907 and left the army in 1919.

I did manage to find my other G Grandad in those records though, which was a bonus. He was discharged after about 80 days for his poor eyesight.

I am curious to find out where he was during the war and if he ever came home as there was a son born and died during war time, when he might have been in France.

What is his name, dob and place of birth - he may be on the WW1 Pension records on ancestry.

Does anyone know if you can order WW1 records like you can WW2 or are they only available by going to Kew in person?

I would love to get my G Grandads army records but there is no way i'll get to London in the foreseeable future.

Any advice would be gratefully received.
