My 3 x Gt.Grandfather William Saywell was born c 1775/76 in Croxton, Cambs.

I have two Baptisms for William Saywell in Croxton, one in 1775 the other in 1776 both have different parents. I have all kinds of information on both couples but nothing to confirm which are mine.

Does this particular line of my family have to end here?

Do any of William Saywell's children's names match with either set of parents on the baptism records, as people often named their children after their parents?

Kathleen,

Unfortunately every generation has a Willliam, James, John, Mary, Elizabeth etc.

The only difference between the two couples is that one had at least ten children the other only two - haven't been able to work that out just yet - but the infant mortality rate those days........!

Hello,

Is there a possibility that the two fathers you have found could be brothers? In this case at least you could possibly find the names of the grandparents and continue from there.

Hilary,

Yes it's very possible that they were brothers but there were so many Saywells in Croxton that they could equally be cousins.

I feel another Brick Wall coming on!

Have you looked for Wills?
Sometimes people named their grandchildren.

Do the witnesses at the marriages give any clues.?

Gwyn,

Alas, they were all Ag. Labs., - didn't have anything to leave.

I've just realised that I don't have all the Marriage details of both sets of parents. What an idiot!
