hi christine. No one has mentioned Tribal Pages, which has a free site and is very easy to operate.

If you wish you can make it secure by having it password protected so that only invited visitors may view your information.

FTM is an excellent means of recording ancesters and usually offers a limited period free sub to Ancestry with access to the internet for census and bmd indices. Good hunting Yvonne

And whatever software you use make sure you create REGULAR backup copies of your file(s) to disc and/or memory stick.

Never ever rely solely on your pc, if you have a hard drive problem then you risk losing all your information.

Michael,

I've been "doing" my tree for ages, but have never learnt how to organise my bits of paper. I have FTM for the people I am sure about, but am interested in your statement that I should "create individual records"......that I can "group into family units".... and when I find a connection my software will enable me to merge or link without having to type it all out again.

Well that is just what I want to do. Can you explain how to do this in words of one syllable? How do I create individual records? on my FTM system? On a spreadsheet? How please?

Kind regards

Margaret

As Reg said, the PAF is free - and it can be found in this site.
