Hi, Montague -

As Laura's posts on this subject were in 2007, she's not likely to be looking here for replies now.
You can click on her name and send her a private message. If she still has the same email address, GR will notify her.

Are you still researching Ardfield ?

http://www.failteromhat.com/

Just found this site which looks pretty good - seems timoleague and ardfield are both areas in Cork, possibly near Rosscarberry (which is also mentioned in censuses of these people!)

Will explore properly another night!

the 10 euro cost works out at 7 pounds... or near enough.

Jeremiah/Cornelius Finn would be a popular name... they don't like to make it too easy for us to find them, do they?? lol

If I think of anything else that would help (sorry, too tired now)... I'll let you know.

Laura.

it could be! Thanks
Have just been looking at the brsgenealogy site - there are quite a few on there with the names I'm looking at - Jeremiah/Cornelius Finn seems to be pretty popular!!!

Trying to work out what the euro cost is in stirling, prob does work out quite expensive, but not sure how else to find out!

Thanks for your help

You're welcome.

Have you tried this site?..........http://corknortheast.brsgenealogy.com/index.php?&set=yes

They cover all of County Cork. Expensive tho...

As for the Airdfild one.......... first thing came to mind was Ardfoyle in Cork City. There's an Ardfoyle Avenue and Ardfoyle Crescent on google maps.

If that's not the one, let me know.

Laura.

Hi Laura,

I have to admit Tamalay is a completely new one on me.... I've never heard of a place with that name, or even one that sounds like it. However, that's not to say it doesn't exist. lol

I've asked on an Irish translation forum for you, and one possibility so far... is timoleague, co. cork.

It's also possible that if the person from "Tamalay" spoke the word to someone filling in a form, the word he/she spoke and the word written would have been different, if that makes sense.... especially if the word being spoken was Irish.

Hope this helps...

another Laura. lol

It's from a contact here on GR, his info states that his ancestor comes from Tamalay, Ireland...; I'll have to PM him and ask I think! The only info I've seen on censuses etc mentions Ireland, Cork and sometimes Waterford, also Airdfild....

!?

Laura

Thanks for trying Daisy Chain!

Laura, I canĀ“t see anything beginning with Tam for Ireland, like you say on Google Earth only Tamalay in Egypt comes up. Are there any other clues you can follow up? Was it on a census or a cert or something you could possibly get more info about?

Laura

Laura Report 9 Dec 2007 18:01

the only tamalay i can find is egypt = does anyone know of any others around the world?
