Thanks Pete and Malcolm.
I'm sure she is the correct lady.

The FreeBMD hit shows:

Surname First name(s) Spouse District Vol Page
-------------------------------------
Marriages Jun 1917 (39%)
-------------------------------------
Hastings Lionel Wheeler Oxford 3a 1902

The solution lies in the "(39%)" - this quarter's index isn't even halfway transcribed !

I used the familyrelatives.com site instead of Ancestry.

Was it the name you hoped for?

I've not come across this before, and can't check on Ancestry as it won't let me browse the records at the moment for some reason!

Are you sure Lionel Hastings is your ancestor/the person you're looking for? If so, ordering the certificate should give you the bride's name.

I've been searching for a couple of hours now and can't see straight.

I've got a Lionel Hastings who married June qtr 1917 Oxford according to FreeBmd and the spouse is a Wheeler.

It doesn't give her name, so I searched on Ancestry for marriages of Wheeler with the same qtr, year and District and it still doesn't come up.

Does it mean that the entry on FreeBmd is completely wrong?

Thanks
