Im trying to find out if Patrick fought in WW1. Not sure where to start, I had a look on nat archives, but theres lots and I dont know how to tell which one he is. Also.. is there a 1918 absent voters register? Would this be at the records office rather than online?

Nothing showing on the pensions info on Ancestry........but that's not conclusive, as not all the records survived.

What made you think that?

Jolly Sailor, thank you for your message but it doesnt seem as if you have actually read mine.

"Pensions records on Ancestry aren't just Pensioners!"
My question was..
"I thought the pensions on ancestry were just officers??"
From ancestry:
About British Army WWI Pension Records 1914-1920
This database contains service records of non-commissioned officers and other ranks who were discharged from the Army and claimed disability pensions for service in WWI.

So all that are on there are NC officers and disabled persons???

Also..

"First place to look if you want to know if he actually went to active service is the Medal Index Cards at TNA:----
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/browse-refine.asp?"

My original post..
"I had a look on nat archives, but theres lots and I dont know how to tell which one he is."
There are 20+ Patrick Kinsellas, I dont want to pay £3.50 to see each medal card when I dont know which one he is.

The records on Ancestry are NOT officers. As Reg said, lots are missing, too. There are lots more service records at National Archives, but again, these are not complete. Absent voter records, if available, would be at local records office.

You need to re-think things, young lady........including your attitude

Non-commissioned officers and other ranks means........ALL service personnel apart from Commissioned Officers.

Well said everyone. Raych has another thread to which I added lots of replies yesterday, but there was not one thank you. I wanted to mention it yesterday, but felt a bit bad,so didn't. I think now I'm justified in mentioning it.

I am very disappointed that I cannot point out that someone has misread my message without a backlash of comments afterwards.

I have just rang Kew. That series of records contains non comissioned officers, and other ranks who received a disability pension. It does not contain low ranks who were not disabled or went on to fight in WW2.

I am writing this from an RAF base, so thank you for pointing out what a NC officer is, I am already aware of that.

Reggie - I am very much offended by your "young lady" comment. This is not something I have been called for many years, lol, I am quite sure if I had started a reply to you with "old man" then you might have been offended too.

Ann - I hadnt actually finished with my other thread from yesterday, I appreciate yours and everyone elses help, but feel that maybe one thank you once I have finished with that topic should be enough. If you have lost sleep because I didnt say thankyou after every single message then I worry.

George? My diabolical attitude?
See this is the problem with this site, everyone is so quick to villify someone as soon as it suits them.. it really does leave a bad taste in your mouth!

Kew have just told you what we all knew.

I didn't expect a thank you for every message, of course not, but ONE would have been nice. If you're worried I might be a strange person - as if I'd lose any sleep over it!-, it's OK, as I won't help you again.

"Kew have just told you what we all knew."

Then what is this discussion about? this is what I have been saying since the beginning!!!!!

As I said Ann, the thread isnt finished with yet.

I'm sure Raych would not have intended to offend everyone as she did - not everyone expresses themselves well in type and what seems to have been curt to us was probably born out of frustration!. Incidentally National Archives turned up trumps for me in looking up my sergeant ancestor. Although he received disability pension in WW1 he also went on to fight in WW2. Wonderful wealth of detail in his army records! Regards
