Sometimes people on here offer to go to Scottish Records office and they can look things up more recent.

Search "Scottish" or "Scotland" in the search box to the left of this page. Good luck.

NSW has births to 1906, marriages to 1956 and deaths to 1976 online:

http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/Index/IndexingOrder.cgi/search?event=births

You can find WWI and WWII service records here (complete service records for WWI, only brief details for WWII):

http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch.aspx

http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/script/veteran.asp?ServiceID

If you have a subscription to Ancestry, you can look at the electoral registers for 1930 and 1936 (for people over 21), and Sands street directories (1861-33), which contain names of householders as well as businesses.

Yes, Suzanne, but I don't have the birth certificate, and records after 1906 are not yet available.

If your mother was born in Scotland then her birth certificate should have parents names, address and date and place of marriage.

Hi Alistair, There are NSW birth records available up to 1918 -feel sure some on GR have them. (I haven't) If no-one else responds I'll ask a friend -if you give me parents' names etc & your email address I'll find out for you. Valerie (WA)

Hi

I have made sustantial progress on my family tree, but have a significant gap in the most recent records on my mother's side, and there is no relative alive who will have this infomation.

My maternal grandparents sailed to Sydney in 1911. My aunt was born there (no NSW birth records later than 1906 available) before they all returned to Scotland. My mother was born in Scotland, I think in 1916, and married my father in 1937.

What, if any, records are available to me to plug the gap between 1911 and 1937?

Thanks.
