Thank you Mhairi. That does look like it could very well be the place. West Port is another street closely linked to this family, and its very close to Thornybauk, so it certainly looks promising!!

I dont it is the same area.

Dalkeith is quite a distance outside the main city of Edinburgh.

I brought up the 1881 census and did a search for both Thonrybank and Dalkeith, both came up with different registration districts.

How about this place?

The transcriptions on each census might have been abit off and this would fall into the area mentioned.

I have a family who lived in the same address for 50 years, and would like to know if anyone knows about its location. The address was:

14 Thornybank/Thornybaulk (had both on census'), parish of St. Cuthberts, district of Newington/St. George.

Can anyone tell me if this is the same Thornybank in Dalkeith that is now an Industrial estate? Sorry, I don't know Edinburgh at all, as im from south England!!
I think it may have been a farm as the family that lived there were cowfeeders, dairymen, maltmen, etc.
Have tried Google, but have only found the industrial estate so far.
