I have just had a really lucky break . Found George Samuel Layton on the CWG site His next of kin are listed and are correct .He was a PO Stoker on HMS Strongbow and died 17/10/1917.
His service no is 310748 , but on additional information it says (served as Williams) .
I then went to HMS Strongbow site and he is listed as a casualty as FJP Williams , same service number , no other information .
Does anyone have any idea how or why he would have two names ?
Thanks Kim

How old was he when he died?

It may be possible that he joined up under a false name as he lied about his age? If later he "confessed" to this they might then have used both names in his records ??
