I am at a dead end. I have been searching for information on the William Austin, born, 1810 in Suffolk England. I am unable to locate his parents. I have found his mother Margaret born 1776? from a 1841 England Census, and have request a copy of her death records but it did not give any information about her maiden name, nor her husband. What other sources can I use to find out who Williams parents are. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Usually a death cert states whether a woman is the 'wife of'' or 'widow of'....and the husband's name.

Perhaps she was unmarried...........

Did William marry? If so, when?

Thank you, Thank you both for your help on with my question. Yes, William was married to Harriett Gray, and yes Margaret was a widow at the time of her death, according to the death certificate. There is no name of a husband and I am unable to find any baptism records to confirm a parish other than a place of residency. Any other suggestions on the search?

There is a William Austin born 1811 Rendlesham Suffolk on the LDS site married to a Harriet Gray. Did they have six children? because they're named on the site too.

Hi Connie, If you can get to a Latter Day Saints church and order the PRs for Rendlesham then the christening records will give the name of the parents.
and may also tell you if they moved there from another parish.
The film number is FHL 992047 for 1722-1812.

Hi Connie,

As per pm, since you are in the US, Jay's method will probably be the most straightforward way of searching UK parish registers.

You could also look at the Suffolk Register Office site and the Suffolk Family History sites:

www.suffolk.gov.uk/sro
and
www.suffolkfhs.co.uk/service.html

The Suffolk FHS page has a Suffolk burial index search service by email. The downloadable summary of parishes covered notes that it includes Rendlesham through to 1900, so that if there is any more info on the parish burials register about Margaret's husband (than there was on the death certificate), you might be able to obtain it from this source.

All the best

Did William remarry after 1837...If so the marriage cert. should name his father.
