As Kath says it may be he died in a hospital at Wakefield or on his way there. The newspapers are probably the way to go firstly.

You could check with the library in Didcot who may have back copies of local newspapers from the time on microfilm.

I'm sure a death on a motorbike at that time would have been reported in the local paper. It may give more detail.

Was there a specialist hospital in Wakefield where he may have been transfered because of his injuries?

The only way you will find out if the death you have found is the right person is to buy the death certificate and see what the cause of death is given as. If the death was as a result of an accident there should have been an inquest and the informant on the death certificate should be a coroner.

So his name was William Herbert?
I wonder if thats the name he was known by?

Maybe his death was reg as Bill? Herb? or even Bert?
Shame his surnames Brown!

If that is the only option for a death in that period your best bet is to order that certificate to see if it is a match for your William.

Hi, we are trying to piece together this jigsaw, my husband was told that his father died whilst riding his moter bike home from Cholsey near Reading in Berkshire in 1956, the family where living in Didcot Berkshire. William married Valeria Mercia Porter in July 1946 in the registration district of Chichester, William Herbert Brown was born in 1922 in Kingsmoor Carlisle,the son of George Herbert born 1898, district of Kingstown Cumberland, his father was George Brown born 1856 married to Annie Cartner also from Carlisle. Here is where the situation gets confusing, after many hours of searching the death records which eventually I searched from 1952- 1958 in case there had been a mistake, the only William Herbert Brown I could find died and was registered in Wakefield 1956 3rd qrt, vol 2D page 473, we are so mystified, as to why if this is my husbands father then why would his mother say that he died in Berkshire, but if this is not his father then can somebody help us trace the death certificate. My husbands mother has passed away so we are under the impression that he has no living relatives, unless any body out there knows different.
