Hi
Or possibly the child of the man she later married.

Hi Carron
Happy New Year.
Sounds a though your father in law was born out of wedlock, after his mother's first marriage was ended (hence NO FATHER named on the cert) and then later adopted by his mother's second husband.
Best wishes Joan

I have a marriage that broke up around 1927 but the divorce didn't come through until the 1940's
The only thing I can think of is that FiL was born after she had separated from hubby 1 but before she was divorced.

Father unnamed normally suggests that the parent's are not married. Does the cert show his mum's maiden name?
Maiden name included- first husband could have died
No maiden name- she probably wasn't marrried

Sounds as though he was illegitimate, then later adopted.

can anyone help I have my father in laws birth certificate it has a line in the place saying fathers name and also in occupation.
He was born in 1943 but he had certificate changed in 1961 which then showed his mothers second husband name.

does anyone have any idea if she would have had to leave her husbands name off certificate if he was away at war or would she been able to add it .

I am not sure if he was later adopted by his stepfather as it was some years after she remarried that the name was changed.

all suggestions appreciated.
