Nicky

Ever local office is different, they all try to be helpful these days, some have dedicated staff to help with research, others do it when they have the time. Some charge, some don't. Find your local office and contact them and see what they will do for you.

But like you, when I retire, I will be spending long holidays in Preston, Chester, Southampton and similar records offices!

Happy hunting.

Thanks Lou, I presume it depends on what area your researching as to who holds the records

Hi Nicky, My local library doesn't hold any such records but the local Records Office does. You could try googling the record office for the area you are interested in and asking if they hold them there and you could also ask their search charges. Mine did one free look up and even photocopied a marriage cert for me free of charge whilst other's charge. It's worth checking out. Good luck, Lou

Thanks Roy,

I knew some libraries held records ,but thought local offices where you can order certs, from held some as well, its just a pity none of mine lived in the county I live in........ I can see alot of long days away being planned for this year.!!

local register office do not hold parish records, you need to go to the main library for the area where these records are kept usualy the local studys or archives

Does anyone know why?, when you can get results for a certain parish from the IGI, why they then don`t have the films/fiches available to order from the LDS local office so as you can have a better look..... I know this isn`t true in all cases ,but if the LDS don`t have the parish records I want ,is the only way to veiw them at the local register office for that district, unless their online of course.

Just read this back ,not sure if it makes sense?
