Keep looking Joyce! He might well have still been alive in 1940 - he'd only have been 82/3 then.

Have you got his wife's death cert? Does it say if she is 'wife of''...or 'widow of'.?

Even for burial in a pauper's grave, there would need to be a death cert......

my grandfather arthur pope - born 1857. Lymington Hants
Last known 1901 Milford on sea. Cant find a death certificate - have trawled through everything since then up to 1940.
Anyone any ideas
Could he have emigrated. Could he have been buried in a paupers grave.

Any help much appreciated.
