My grandfather and his siblings were adopted in 1900 when their Mother died and their Father worked away. They were adopted into their Mothers family so it may be worth checking links with the childs Mothers maiden name or aunts and their married name! |

Formal adoption began in mid 1920's but informal adoption was taking place earlier than this. |

When did these begin? I ask as a child has disappeared after her parents divorced in 1902 - father obtained custody and in spite of his having remarried a couple of years later - no sign of child. |
