Hi Roy,

Many thanks for your reply, thats what I thought some of the grograms will not run on Vista, can you tell me which programs wont run on Vista that do on Windows XP.
My son-in-law was ment to come yesterday to pickup and fix my computer but due to heavy snow in the area he lives in he couldn't get here, however he is going to take it away today and I have just got this new Laptop chargeing at the moment, hope he sets that up for me too.

Betty, I have a photo editing program, a webcam, have not tryed FTM yet, that will not work also my antivirus that i use is not compatable with vista as a 3 user version so i have had to download the free AVG antivirus for the laptop

plus what you have to bear in mind is that its not the program that is the problem, but what version of a program that counts

Hi Ro,

Thank again for your reply, I have AVG free edition anti virus on my Windows XP computer anyway so glad to hear it Works on Vista although they do give you a free Norton anti virus program with laptop but I think that would just be for either 6 months or a year, haven't looked over all the manual and other paperwork yet, leaving that to son-in-law to sort out for me/

I'm in the same boat. PC is XP and have just bought a laptop with Vista.

Still got things to put on, mainly using word and excel from Office....the tool bar is re-organised and I have been frustrated with trying to find things, but once I know where they have moved things, it will be easier. Disappointed that the vista programme doesn't include Access as it is on XP....another way of making money by having to buy it separately, I suppose!

As for the vista programme, its a different layout which I have to get used to....as I did when XP came out.

One problem my daughter had....we set her up with a laptop and printer etc for Uni in Sept 2005. The lap top went faulty early last year and they replaced the computer...with a vista. The new printer (which she had hardly used since the previous September) wasn't compatable and so she can't use it! So check if vista is compatable for your printer.

Best wishes
Dee

Hi I have vista on my pv, had it since last July/August time. Once you get used to the layout it is fine, Usually if it is not compatible with programmes you can download a patch to fix the problem. It runs OK with free AVG and also with FTM 2008 We had trouble with the web cam but OH found a driver for it last night so i think that is now fixed. had no trouble with printers/scanners, have run three printers with it now - all Epson and two scanners.
My frustration was that I now have Works and not Excell spreadsheet.

Hello Dee and Ann,

Sorry I didn't know there were any more replies on my thread, been away doing washing.
Anyway what I can't understand is when I got my home PC I got discs with it, most of programs however had been already set up on the computer which was a Dell. This laptop only has one disc as far as I can see, leaving it to son-in-law by the way as I am not good at technical stuff. So are there other programs already installed then or what??

Betty aka complete computer idiot!!

If you haven't got the operating discs as back-up, you can buy them from PC World. I had to do it and they charged me £30 for the disk. Suggest you call them about it. Not sure if they stock them but will put you in the right direction.
