I'm sorry I'm not sure which board to place this enquiry, I am researching a local family for another GR member.
I was wondering whether anyone has any knowledge of the name dowdle (first name), its origins or meaning.
Thank you

Joy

Sorry, can only find it as a surname.

I would imagine that it was a surname somewhere further back in the female side of the family and given to the child as a first name to keep the name going in the family.

Thanks to all the above,
I have tried a quick search on google, but will have to try harder.
Thanks Kathleen that may be the case, the name appears at least twice in the male line. I just wondered if it could be a nickname for a job.
If anyone else has any ideas please let me know.
