Hi Michelle. Keep in mind that if the children were born during the war the mother could have been evacuated to a different area so the births could be not where you are expecting them to be.

Just to let you know I have had a little bit of success today with my search.

I found a London newspaper had a printed notice of my grandfather and his soon to be new wife's deed poll name change, and from that had an address that they lived, then in a 1972 telephone directory their daughter was listed as living at this same address.

So I now know she existed and so possibly did her elder brother.
I don't want to start posting names incase they are still alive, but thank-you to the people who replied to my post.

Just shows you should never give up....if this has a happy ending I will let you all know.

Thanks Gwyn, on the marriage cert it states she's a spinster so I guess I can rule that one out.

Insomnia, I had thought about the tree being wrong, but didn't think about tracing the marriages.

It could also be a possibility that they were born to another father and if you don't know his surname they may be very hard to find.

Another possibility is that the other tree is wrong and you are looking for something that isn't there.

It may be worth trying another angle and try to trace the marriages of the 2 individuals and then work back using the information you get. At least this may help to prove whether they exist or not.

If the bride was previously married, the children could legally be registered in THAT married name even though the first husband wasn't the father.

Just wanted to point out that my relative knows I am helping them find this info.

Hoping one of you lovely people might be able to guide me in the right direction?

I am looking for 2 births but I have a problem, they seem to have been born prior to a marriage in 1944, these births I have been unable to find so far even though I have checked 3 seperate surnames.

My Grandfather divorced my grandmother and re-married, he changed his name by deed poll as did his soon to be wife, so when they married they both had the same name anyway.

On another relatives tree they have 2 children born to them prior to the marriage, the surname of the supposed father of the bride has been checked, my grandfather's name prior to the deed poll has been checked and also the new name.

Can anyone give me some futher advise or suggestions on what I could look at next??
This is driving me mad.......arrrrggggg!!!
