However PRONI couldn't find anything on this marriage or the birth of Mary Kearney in 1878 or Catherine Kearney in 1880 either.

Hello Ian and Teresa,

Thank you for your replies, I have ordered the certificate now from GRONI, I evetually found out this was the one for ordering them. It was just they gave you a form to complete and print off to send but my printer isn't working so couldn't print it off. Anyway I e-mailed them and they said I could order online, which I eventually did.

Thank you both for your reply, think it was just one of my senior moments, many thanks for your help and your replies.

From my experience of obtaining Irish certificates for Southern Ireland they give the same information as on the ones from our GRO.

Address are usually in full although some earlier ones may only have the name of a village.

You can order certificates on-line or by post from GRONI. If you don't know any details just put in "unknown".

The certicate has mothers and fathers name
just the same as English certificates but instead of an actual address with a road will often give the townland where born. The townland is a small part of a parish.

PRONI is the records office.

PRONI is the equivalent of NAS in Edinburgh and GRONI is like NRH/GRO-S in Edinburgh. Former has all the archive documents, latter has the bmd stuff.

Hi Gerri,

Now found out PRONI is PUBLIC RECORD OFFICE of NORTHERN IRELAND.

I still don't know what the difference is though. As they are both Northern Ireland

Hi Gerri,

This is my problem I was told by someone to order them from Groni (which I think mean General Records Office Northern Ireland) as the births were in Northern Ireland Down/Antrim but you have to fill in an application form with all the detalis of the birth, marriage or whatever, then print it off and send it...................Problem in my damed printer isn't working so I can't print off application form, thought about telephoning them but not sure if they will accept this, have e-mailed them to ask.
