Thank you for previous family help.

I'm still no nearer to finding out about Florence but wondered if she had gone abroad?

Canada was a favoured place for some of my Skerretts.
Please could someone check Canadian census after 1901 ?

Scroll down to bottom left 'home page' click, then 'Field Names and Landowners Database' there you'll find info about the database.........the year seems to be circa 1840.

Thank you for that, Libby.

There are some interesting names there and a few familiar location names that crop up in census.

I can't find a date, ...Can you?

No relevance to the info you are seeking, but if you haven't seen this site you may find it interesting.

OK....I've checked back over some of our notes.

On VRI there is a Catherine Frances VAUGHAN baptised March 1865 at Peterstow, the daughter of Harcourt VAUGHAN and Hannah.

Following them into census makes me think they are not mine.....maybe this is the Catherine away at school in 1881?

I am very interested in the idea that Caroline was later Catherine....How to prove this, I wonder?
Thank you for giving me another angle to look at.

Thank you all for working so hard on this while I was offline.
All the SKERRETTs from Ullingswick are 'mine' ,I have tracked them there back to a 1777 burial, so far.
Herbert and Elizabeth are my direct line.

The family are good at Red herrings Deb.
(Frances later maried in Wales as Ruth)

Back to Caroline...... I'm off to check the census to see her in Madley.....which is across Herefordshire from Ullingswick but IS where some of my branch moved to.

I couldn't find anything under Vaughan but I did find the following in Bromyard!

Name: Frances Ruth Skerrett
Year of Registration: 1881
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: Bromyard
County: Herefordshire, Hereford and Worcester, Worcestershire
Volume: 6a
Page: 513

I'll see if I can find this little girl in later census records in case she's a red herring.

Back soon,

Deb:)

Oh fiddlesticks. She's the daughter of Herbert and Elizabeth Skerrett of Ullingswick...........................

So back to the drawingboard. Where can Florence be?

This is the only birth ref that fits for the Caroline libby found. We've no way of knowing if we're on the right track though.

Name: Caroline Vaughan
Year of Registration: 1862
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
District: Leominster
County: Herefordshire, Hereford and Worcester
Volume: 6a
Page: 488

So maybe Florence was born a Vaughan and changed her forename later in life too. My g/grandmother did that. Very frustrating!!!!!!

Thank you for looking Reg.

I know this family are either forgetful, ...or economical with the truth.

A child Henry in 1901 census shown as b. Herefordshire is more than likely the Edward Henry b.1890 in South Wales ( he was back to Edward Henry, son of Edward Henry when he married )

I've just looked again at 1871 census and noted a Catherine WALL b. Hatfield.

If you say that aloud......?

1871 census does not show anyone named Vaughan residing in Ullingswick.

The only Vaughan shown on 1871 as having been born in Ullingswick is a James.

Elouise
I've often looked at that Catherine in 1881....but not claimed her yet !

No....I can't pinpoint her in 1881.
She would probably be in Herefordshire....but could be anywhere if she was in service.
In 1901 ( living Whitbourne, Herefordshire) she is shown as b. Hatfield? Herefordshire.

Her father was supposedly Edward VAUGHAN.

Thank you for your interest.

I don't have the marriage cert. but have seen the Ullingswick parish register when Catherine married as VAUGHAN.
A birth certificate of the son, Edward Henry, b.1890 names her as Catherine SKERRETT formerly VAUGHAN.

If Florence was born in Ullingswick, the registration district would be Bromyard. I've not found a suitable entry in either surname.

Florence SKERRETT first appears in Llangeinor,Wales in 1891 ( as SHERRETT) and is shown as born c.1882 in Ullingswick, Herefordshire, the daughter of Edward and Catherine ( nee VAUGHAN).
Edward and Catherine married in 1885.

I haven't found a birth registration for Florence in either name and I have looked at baptism records at R.O. for Ullingswick and found no mention of Florence.

In 1901 she was a parlour maid in Montgomeryshire....but what then ?

Any help with birth or further sightings would be most welcome.
