I am trying to trace any possible ancestors in Canada. My Great grandfather's brother Francis Henry Evans was born in Reading, Berkshire, UK in 1893 and he and his fiancee, Elsie Lillian Chard also born in Reading, Berkshire married at the Salvation Army in North Monaghan, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada in 1919. They settled as far as I know in Ontario.

I would like to try and find out if they had any children and If I have any family connections in Canada.

Can anyone help?

Was he in WW1 in the Canadian Army?
There's a Francis Henry Evans enlisted Aug. 1915, Peterborough.
He was born 4 Jan., 1893, Reading, Berkshire, England.
Next of kin was David Evans, 75 Anisty? Rd., Reading.
If this is him, he must have returned to England then came back to Canada.

Unfortunately, the Ontario births only go up until 1909 on Ancestry.

Hi Nicola:

While I cannot help with the Evans' offspring, this might be a start:

Surname Given Name Cemetery County Township Reference
EVANS Francis H. Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, London Middlesex London MX-141
EVANS Elsie L. Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, London Middlesex London MX-141

Could they be your Evans? There are over 30 Evans buried in the cemetery, so the above could just be coincidence.

When I first started my research I wrote to a couple of Ontario cemetery managers and they were extremely helpful (I had planned on visiting within the year, so perhaps that could be why they were so kind). Included in some of the information were informants and their relationships (sons of the deceased). There is also the possibility that if these are your Evans, that other Evans might be buried in the plot.

PS While London and Peterborough are not close in distance, a few of my ancestors settled in the Peterborough area (pre-1880), only to move to Toronto later. It wouldn't surprise me to hear that your Evans did not stay in the Peterborough area.
